MIS Socio Science Field Trip 2010

Day 1: Visiting the Submarine Museum

Last May 2010, some of MIS students from the Middle and High section went to visit some interesting places in Surabaya and Bali. The program was held on May 10 – 25, 2010. One of the places was PT. BSW for the presentation of robotic program for Middle and High school student in Surabaya.

They also visited the largest christian university in Surabaya, Petra Christian University (PCU) and also the largest zoo in Wonokromo. After that, they went to Bali to visit ethnic and cultural places there.

MIS Conducts Health Week Fair

Manado International School conducted a health week fair on November 16-20, 2009, both in the ECP & Elementary School and Middle and High School sections with the theme “Good Health, Good Education, Good Behavior, Foundation for a Better Future” and “Our Body in Action” respectively.

The event culminated with a program including the induction of Classroom PTA Officers and the General ECP & Elementary School PTA Officers by the ECP and Elementary School principal, MRS. Teresita Karundeng-Sanchez on November 20, 2009. The closing program was highlighted with the healthy foods’ display competition, healthy class competition and and well-prepared presentations from Nursery/K1 – 6 students, teachers and parents. The parents were so cooperative and supportive in making the program a successful one.

MIS Students Join Field Trip

On November 6^th, 2009 the middle and high school students joined field trip. The middle school students went to several places in Manado such as the National Museum, the office of Manado Post; one of the largest local newspaper in town, a buddhist temple Ban Hing Kiong, and the new eye clinic; Klinik Mata Nusantara.

While the high school students went to several places in the Bitung area. They visited the zoo ‘Taman Marga Satwa Tandurusa’, the fish canning factory ‘Sari Malalugis’ and the Buddhist temple.

They went to those places using several MIS’ school bus accompanied by all the middle and high school teachers along with the Principal and the Vice-principals.

MIS Pupils Win IT Fiesta Computer Competition

On Thursday, October 29^th, 2009 the ECP and Elementary students joined a computer competition ‘IT Fiesta Competition’ held at SD Ebenheizar, Manado. The competition was sponsored by the Gramedia Group. The competition was divided into four categories, they are:

Category A: For Kinder 1 and Kinder 2 Pupils
Program used in the competition: Puzzle
Winner taken from those who got the highest score
Category B: For Grade 1 and Grade 2
Program used in the competition: Memory Game
Winner taken from those who were the fastest to solve the program
Category C: For Grade 3 and 4
Program used in the competition: My First Dictionary
Winner taken from those who got the highest score
Category D: For grade 5 and 6
Program used in the competition: Typing Program
Winner taken from those who got the highest score

The pupils who joined the competition were Virginia Changir (K-2); Jefferson Tuerah (G1); Loysing Ismanto and Gracia Umboh (G2); Ni Putu Vanya, Angel Kululu, and Divest Gow (G3); Nadia Tjitrosantoso, Rayne Arthur, and Lidia Ruitan (G4); Gracia Lumentut (G50); and Angelia Widarta (G6);

The competition joined by many pupils from all around North Sulawesi. For A category there were 89 pupils joined, for B category there were 119 pupils joined, for C category there were 177 pupils joined and for D category there were 201 pupils joined.

The representatives from MIS who won the competition were Virginia Changir in A Category with 82 points. She won the first place out of 89 pupils. Lidia Ruitan won the first place followed by Rayne Arthur in the second place out of 177 pupils on the C Category.

Elementary Pupils Enjoy the Camping

On October 21 to 23, 2009 the Elementary section of Manado International School held an in-campus camping program. The participants who joined this program were the grade 4, 5 and 6 students. The program was a part of one of the subject they took in the extracurricular class ‘Pathfinder’.

During the program they studied many new things regrading to scouting, such as sign languange, pitching tent, camp cookery, hiking and backpacking, and many more.

Their pathfinder instructor, Mr. Manny Licayan and Mr. Aries Caridad were the one who organized the programs. also present during that time was the Principal of Elementary, Mrs. Tessie Karundeng, the Vice Principals; Mrs. Petra Parera (Academic Affairs) and Ms. Grace Pantaleon (Students’ Affairs).

At the end of the program, the participants were joning the hiking program to the foot of Mount Klabat.

Middle and High Camping Program 2009

On October 14 to 16, 2009, the middle and high school section held an out-campus camping. This program was a compulsory program for all the middle and high school students. The program was held in the Bukit Doa Suwaan, North Sulawesi.

On the program, students taught to be an independent persons and can work in teams by joining several team-building programs designed by the camping coordinator the Student Assocation. They have to cook their own meals, pitch the tents, and experience team-building program and games.

Also present during the event were the middle and high school teachers, the Principal Mr. Billy Kumolontang, MBA., Vice Principals; Mr. Immanuel Touwelly (Academic Affairs) and Mr. Ephraim Fajutrao (Students’ Affairs).

A Glimse from the Week of Spiritual Emphasis

Pastor Lauda Woy, M.Div. received the token of appreciation and the certificate of recognition for MIS Director, Mir. Billy Kumolontang, MBA.

This semester’s week of spiritual emphasis held on the MIS Auditorium during the 5th to 9th of October, 2009. This event held twice a year every semester. This semester week of spiritual emphasis theme was “Jesus is My Hero” brought by Pastor Lauda Woy, M.Div.

The event divided by two sections which were morning session (08:00AM) for the ECP and Elementary section pupils and the second session (09:00AM) for the Middle and High school students. Both sessions’ assigned students as the participants for the program. Among others who took part in the program for the meditation numbers in the Middle and High school sessions are the Violin ensemble, the Kolintang and Angklung class, Students’ Male chorus, the Middle and High school Choir, and also Teachers’ and Staff Male chorus. While in the ECP and Elementary sessions each of the class were assigned to took part in the Special song along with the music instrumental classes for the meditation number such as Violin, Recorder, Angklung, Kolintang and a special performance of the Susilo Brothers and Sister.

The theme song for this special week taken from a well-known song entitled “Jesus Is My Superhero” for the ECA and Elementary session, while the Middle and High school session took the song entitled “His Name Is Wonderful” as the theme song.

Each day were filled with songs and prayers and special messages by Pastor Woy. All of these were expected to raise and emphasize the students’ spirit as one of the goal of the Institution to assist students in attaining the highest standards of education, religious and moral values and emotional strength.

At the end of the program, the Management of the Institution gave the token of appreciation along with the certificate of recognition to the speaker. The program was conducted by Ma’am Tessie Karundeng, and the token of appreciation was given by Mr. Billy Kumolontang, MBA as the Director of Manado International School.
